Bucknell Volleyball Advances To Patriot League Championship Game

Lewisburg, Pa. - This afternoon the Bucknell volleyball team advanced to the Patriot League Championship contest by defeating its nemesis this season, Lehigh. In a match that lasted over two hours, the Herd defeated Lehigh for the first time in 2000, 3-1.
Less than 24-hours after being named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, junior Shannon Walker (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) backed up her reputation with a sound hitting day on the court. Walker led all competitors in the match with 21 kills on 42 attempts while only committing one error.
Freshman Brandi Trapasso (N.Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) tied her own Bucknell record for digs in a match by recording 32 point savers in the semifinal match. Trapasso does this after being named both the Defensive and Rookie of the Year in the Patriot League, an unprecedented achievement in the ten-year old conference. Recording double-double's against the Mountain Hawks for the Orange and Blue were senior Brooke Bader (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria), sophomore Jen Wrigley (Benicia, Calif./Benicia), and Trapasso.
Supporting the Mountain Hawk cause was First Team All-Patriot League selection Rochelle Healea with 17 kills and 27 digs, tops for the fourth seeded Lehigh squad. Also pitching in with a double-double was freshman Jeanette Singleton recording 15 kills and 22 digs in the match. The Mountain Hawks finish the season with a 15-15 overall record and a 7-5 conference tally.
With the victory, Bucknell advances to the championship game which will be played on Sunday, November 19, at 1:00 p.m. against #2 Colgate in Davis Gymnasium. This contest will be a rematch of the season finale victory that the Bison earned against Colgate, giving them sole possession of first place in the conference.
