Volleyball Survives Scare From Holy Cross And Pulls Out The Victory In Rally Point Set

Lewisburg, Pa. --- This evening the Bucknell women's volleyball team fought back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Holy Cross Crusaders 3-2 in a five-set match that took place in Davis Gymnasium. With the match being played in the Bison home arena, the Orange and Blue rallied in the fifth set to overcome a 9-3 Holy Cross lead. Bucknell determined not to be defeated and cheered on by a strong crowd won the fifth and decisive game 16-14 to take the contest.
Freshman Brandi Trapasso (N. Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) had a career night for the Bison as she totaled 32 defensive digs to better her previous high by eight. Trapasso also had a strong hitting night for Bucknell recording 14 kills on 42 attempts while only totally 3 errors. Junior Shannon Walker (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield), a familiar name to lead the Bison in hitting, finished the match with 24 kills on 58 attempts. Also adding to the offensive punch for Bucknell was sophomore Jennifer Wrigley (Benicia, Calif./Benicia) with 16 kills and senior Brooke Bader (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) with 14 kills.
In a match which turned out to be a true barn burner, Holy Cross had two individuals record double-double's. Senior Katie Lynch and sophomore Cheryl Jakielo were the recipients of double-double's for Holy Cross. Lynch achieved her double-double with 14 kills and 25 defensive digs while Jakielo completed hers with 10 kills and 13 defensive digs.
Holy Cross falls to 5-4 in the Patriot League while the Bucknell volleyball team improves to 12-13 on the season and more importantly a 7-1 conference record. The Bison will play again tomorrow night versus Army at 7:30 p.m. in Davis Gymnasium.
