Volleyball Retakes First Place With Victory Over Lafayette

Lewisburg, Pa. --- This evening the Bucknell women's volleyball team redeemed its Thursday night loss to Lehigh by defeating Patriot League foe Lafayette, 3-0.
The Bison swept the match in three straight sets, 15-7, 15-3, and 15-10. The contest was not an easy victory for the Bison because of some tough play from the Leopards in the third and final game.
The Orange and Blue exhausted the entire bench this evening, playing a total of 13 people from the roster. Leading the way for the Bison was senior co-captain Brooke Bader (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) with another fine hitting night. Bader finished the contest with 10 kills on 19 attempts while only committing 2 errors for a .421 hitting percentage. Also having a solid hitting night was junior Shannon Walker (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) with eight kills on 15 attempts and only two errors for a .400 hitting percentage. Coach Opalski utilized the setting of junior Whitney Williams (LaJolla, Calif./LaJolla) and freshman Breean Trapasso (N. Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda), who combined for 41 set assists on the night, 26 and 15 respectively.
The Leopards had two individuals complete double-double's during the contest. Senior Michelle Calvo had 10 kills and 14 defensive digs in the match to complete her double-double. Also recording a double-double for Lafayette was freshman Caroline Eshman who finished the evening with 10 kills and 13 defensive digs.
Bucknell improves 10-12 overall and 5-1 in conference action. Lafayette falls to 1-18 on the year and 0-6 in the Patriot League. The Bison now have sole possession of first place in the Patriot League with the victory and with a little help from Colgate who defeated Lehigh this evening. The volleyball team will play next, this Friday, October 20 when they host Fordham in Davis Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
