A four-year letterman in track and field and the owner of long-standing indoor and outdoor triple jump records that were significantly longer than the marks by any other athlete in Bucknell history, Bill Gravely was also a three-year letterman and two-year starter in basketball. The outdoor triple jump mark of 50 feet, 11 ¾ inches was set while posting a fifth-place finish at the 1976 IC4A Championships, and the indoor mark of 50-3 ½ was achieved in his senior year, when he was runner-up at IC4As. Gravely won two East Coast Conference outdoor titles and was runner-up the other two years, and he helped lead the Bison to three ECC team championships. In addition to earning All-East honors indoors and outdoors, he was the first Bucknell athlete to score points in a field event at the IC4A meet. A basketball player during his first three winters at Bucknell, Gravely averaged 5.8 points and 5.1 rebounds for his career. He came to Bucknell from Lower Merion High School.Â
