A three-year swimming letterman and twice co-captain of the Bison team, Bill Dorr in 1960 helped lead Bucknell to its first conference swimming championship. Winner of the 220 and 440-yard freestyle events and anchor on the 400-yard medley relay team that clinched the Middle Atlantic Conference championship for the Bison, Dorr also won one other conference title, placed sixth in the 100 free at the 1962 Eastern Collegiate Championships, and at the time of his graduation held or shared five school records. One of those most responsible for helping coach Bob Latour establish Bucknell as a prominent school in Eastern intercollegiate swimming circles, Dorr won 40 dual-meet events during his career. He came to Bucknell from Albany (N.Y.) Academy.
