Wlliam Clarke Hinke, a three-year Bucknell fullback, was made a member of the National Football Hall of Fame and the Helms College Hall of Fame in recognition of his superior performance in college and his 10-year professional career, which included four All-Pro selections. As a Bucknell sophomore, Hinkle led the East in scoring, netting 21 touchdowns and 128 total points. He set team records when he scored eight touchdowns and 50 points in a single game against Dickinson. In his senior season, Hinkle led Bucknell to an undefeated campaign (6-0-3) while becoming the first Bison to amass more than 1,000 yards of total offense in a single year. He averaged 5.3 yards per carry while rushing for 705 yards, and he completed 18 passes for 331 more. In all, the "Lackawanna Express" totaled 37 touchdowns and 230 points in his three-year Bucknell career. He went on to score 42 more TDs a member of the Green Bay Packers, for whom he also passed, punted and kicked extra points and field goals during his Hall-of-Fame NFL career. Hinkle retired in 1941 as the NFL's all-time leading rusher.Â
