Tom Scotton compiled the finest wrestling record at Bucknell at the time of his graduation in 1978. A co-captain of the wrestling team as a junior and senior, Scotton was selected as Bucknell's Outstanding Wrestler for four straight years and had a career record of 55-0-1 in dual matches. Winner of three East Coast Conference championships at 126 and 134 pounds, the Outstanding Wrestler in the conference tournament in 1976, a Wilkes Open championship in 1977, and an All-East selection by National Mat News in 1978, Scotton had an overall career record of 89-4-1, with all four losses coming at the NCAA Championships. Chosen for Sports Illustrated’s "Faces in the Crowd" at the conclusion of his freshman year, Scotton was selected as the outstanding wrestler at four tournaments during his career, received the Joseph H. Enos, Sr. Award three times for having the most takedowns on the Bucknell team, and held three season and five career school records. He was the co-winner (with fellow Hall-of-Famer Tom McLean) of the Christy Mathewson Award as the outstanding male athlete in the Class of 1978.
