A pioneer in the Bucknell aquatics program, Sue Mestier Brauner served as team captain of Bucknell's first varsity women's swimming team and qualified for national championship competition. Mestier Brauner, who began her Bucknell career when women's swimming was a club sport, captained the Bison's inaugural varsity team in 1973-74. She graduated with school records in the 100, 200 and 400-yard freestyle events, and the 100-yard butterfly. A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Mestier Brauner recorded two top-10 finishes at the 1974 National Women's Swimming Championships. She placed 10th in the 200 free at the national championships and swam on a 400 free relay team that finished seventh. Led by Mestier Brauner, Bucknell's first-ever varsity team finished fifth at the Eastern Championships and placed 18th of 75 teams at the national championship meet.
