Sports: Baseball, Basketball
Captain of the 1943 Bison baseball team and a starter in basketball, Bob Keegan went on to an outstanding Major League baseball career that included an All-Star Game appearance in 1954 and a no-hitter in 1957, both while pitching for the Chicago White Sox. Keegan served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II after leaving Bucknell. After getting a late start on his pro baseball career, he posted a 40-36 record in six Major League seasons, including a 16-9 record in 1954. He was the last Bucknellian to play in a Major League baseball game until Eric Junge in 2002. Keegan's pro career spanned 15 years (1946-51), six of which were spent in the Major Leagues with the White Sox. His no-hit game against the Washington Senators on Aug. 20, 1957 was the only no-hitter in the Major Leagues that year and was the first by a White Sox pitcher in 20 years. A Rochester, N.Y., native, Keegan was an infielder at Bucknell before beginning four years of military service. Originally signed by the New York Yankees, he led the International League with an 18-10 record in 1959 while pitching for Rochester.Â
