Randy Ruger was co-captain of the 1969 Bucknell football team and 1970 baseball team and was the NCAA batting champion in 1969. An All-Middle Atlantic Conference defensive back in football in 1968 and 1969 and an All-MAC outfielder in baseball, Ruger in 1969 led the nation in batting with a .494 average and in slugging with a .883 percentage. He batted a league-best .618 in MAC games and also ranked in the top five in the nation in runs batted in, triples and home runs. Ruger hit .398 in his Bucknell career and set 13 baseball school records. A graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, he was also a three-year starter at defensive halfback, had four career interceptions and received honorable mention Little All-America honors and first-team all-state honors.Â
