Owen "Jeff" James was co-captain of the 1933 football team and played in the 1934 East-West Shrine All-Star game. Winner of three letters each in football, basketball and track, James was a 185-pound guard on the 1933 grid squad that finished 7-2 in Carl Snavely's final year as head coach. He received honorable mention All-America honors and was regarded by Snavely as one of the two best linemen he coached at Bucknell. James was also a starter on the undefeated (6-0-3) 1931 team and in 1932. He was also an honor student in engineering. A graduate of Scranton (Pa.) Technical High School, he later served as freshman football coach and varsity track coach at Muhlenberg before beginning a career with the Bethlehem Steel Company. James was the former president of the Bucknell Alumni Club of Baltimore and coach of a sandlot football team that won the Maryland Club League Championship.
