Alexander Anderson
- Induction:
- 1999
- Class:
- 1971
A three-year letterman in tennis and captain his senior year, Alexander Anderson contributed greatly to one of the most successful three-year stretches enjoyed by any team in any sport at Bucknell. While Anderson was playing for the Bison, the team won three Middle Atlantic Conference titles and compiled a 38-3 overall record. Anderson had a career singles record of 38-2, losing only once in his sophomore and senior years. He also played doubles, teaming with Hall of Fame member Steve Baird for two seasons. The duo went 23-1 and won two MAC titles. Anderson broke the school record for consecutive match victories with 33 and posted a near-perfect winning percentage of .950. After college, Anderson won numerous tournaments in the New York metropolitan area and the east, including a victory over John McEnroe at a tournament at the Port Washington Tennis Academy. Anderson came to Bucknell from Sand Point, N.Y., and The Choate School.Â
