Marty Quick was both an outstanding and versatile athlete, and one of the finest performers in the history of intercollegiate boxing at Bucknell. Winner of three letters each in football and boxing, Quick captained the latter team in 1939, won Eastern Intercollegiate Boxing Conference championships at 175 pounds in 1937 and 1938, led Bucknell to two conference team titles, and lost only one boxing decision during his collegiate career. A halfback and fullback in football, he was noted for his outstanding blocking but was also the third-leading scorer on the 1938 team, the last Bison squad to defeat Penn State in football. A graduate of Northeast High School in Philadelphia, Quick later coached high school football in California and played on U.S. Navy teams after leaving Bucknell. He saw action with the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.Â
