Margaret L. Bryan
- Induction:
- 1991
A member of the Bucknell faculty for 36 years from 1945-81, Peg Bryan played a leading role in the establishment of a women's varsity athletics program at the University. She served as the first director of women's intercollegiate athletics at Bucknell and was the guiding light behind the women's physical education and recreation program for 35 years. Bryan organized a highly successful intercollegiate competition for Bucknell women long before the program received formal varsity recognition in the early 1970s. Active in the Eastern Association for Physical Education of College Women and other regional and national organizations, she received the Bison Club Award in 1981 in recognition of her contributions to the athletic program. A native of Kansas and a graduate of Kansas State University and New York University, Bryan remained a resident of Lewisburg following her retirement. Today the Bryan-Humphreys Award is presented to the senior student-athlete who has “exhibited exceptional versatility within his/her sport, displaying outstanding achievement and the selfless determination to help the team succeed by contributing in a variety of ways.”
