A three-year basketball letterman and co-captain of Bucknell's 1964-65 team, Lorry Hathaway set a school career scoring record of 1,208 points, graduated as the second-leading rebounder and led his team in scoring and rebounding for three straight years. Named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference First Team in 1964 and 1965, he was also selected to the 1965 ECAC All-East team, a unit that included future NBA stars Dave Bing, Bill Bradley and Bob Weiss. Hathaway, who scored 20 points and had 16 rebounds to lead an upset of Cornell in his third varsity game, also scored 34 points as a sophomore against Penn State, set a then-season scoring record of 470 points as a senior, averaged 19.6 points and 12.3 rebounds in his senior season, had a career scoring average of 17.7 points and broke the career scoring record when he had 39 points against Delaware. A graduate of Mount Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, Hathaway was president of his sophomore class and of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at Bucknell.Â
