A letterman at tackle on Carl Snavely-coached teams that had a combined 17-6-4 record, Jack Dempsey was named to the All-Players All-America First Team selected for Liberty Magazine in 1933, joining such greats as Joe Skladany of Pittsburgh, Francis Wistert of Michigan, Beattie Feathers of Tennessee and Aaron Rosenburg and Cotton Warburton of Southern California. Dempsey, who played on Bucknell's first-ever undefeated freshman football team and on the undefeated 1931 team, was the fourth lineman and sixth player overall elected to the Hall of Fame from the 1933 team that finished 7-2 and was Snavely's final one at Bucknell. Also a letterman as a shot putter on the track and field team and a member of a champion intramural basketball team, Dempsey was an All-East football choice in 1933 and played in the National Football League from 1934-37 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles. A Scranton, Pa., native, Dempsey was also active on the Bucknell debating team and spent 36 years as an executive in the portable power tool industry.Â
