A four-year basketball letterwinner and an outstanding scholar-athlete, Jennifer Walz Lapioli became the first Bucknell basketball player to score more than 2,000 points in a career. Walz also became the first Bucknell athlete to have been selected to the Academic All-America First Team three consecutive years. She brought national attention to Bucknell with her selection by the United States Basketball Writers Association as their Outstanding Scholar-Athlete in 1988-89. Walz was a three-time All-East Coast Conference selection, and in 1988-89 was chosen as the conference's player of the year. During her senior year she set Bucknell records with 619 points and a 22.1 scoring average. She also set the ECC career scoring record. After graduation, Walz made a television appearance as a competitor on "American Gladiators." She came to Bucknell from Berkeley Heights, N.J., and Governor Livingston High School.
