The greatest three-year scorer in Bucknell basketball history, Jim Wherry averaged a school-record 19.2 points per game during his career. Named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference Second Team as a sophomore in 1968, Wherry scored 470 points and averaged 20.4 ppg that season, the best mark ever for a first-year Bison player. He scored 42 points against Penn State that season, a performance that stood as a Bucknell modern-day record until broken by Hall-of-Famer Al Leslie in 1980. Wherry, who started for three years and co-captained the team in 1969-70, scored 1,346 career points. He was a graduate of Jeannette (Pa.) High School.Â
