Jim Given transferred to Bucknell from Miami (Ohio) and became the football team's starting quarterback for three straight years from 1985-87. One of the top signal callers in program annals, he earned the Lewisburg Touchdown Club Award as the team MVP as both a junior and senior. He was a First Team All-Colonial League selection and an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American in 1987. A prolific passer, the former co-captain graduated with a school-record 4,790 career passing yards and 417 completions, and his 28 touchdown passes ranked No. 2 at the time. He also set a school record for passing yards (2167) in a season and total offense (4509) in a career. Given became the first Bison quarterback to post back-to-back 300-yard passing games, and as a junior in 1986 he began the season with 100 straight attempts without an interception. A native of Westlake, Ohio, Given passed away in 1997 after a courageous battle with ALS.
