One of the most decorated swimmers in Bucknell history, Jim Harvey graduated as the owner of eight individual school records, each of which remained on the board for at least 10 years. During his career Harvey dominated the East Coast Conference, winning 11 of a possible 12 individual races while swimming as a member of eight winning relay teams. He was named the Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet in each of his four years. Harvey won ECC Championship titles in seven different events, twice qualifying for the NCAA Championships, where he was honorable mention All-American in the 50-meter freestyle in 1988. He was the Eastern champion in the 100 free in 1987 and in the 100 butterfly in 1988. Harvey also competed on the Bucknell water polo team in 1987 and 1988 and won the Christy Mathewson Award as the outstanding senior athlete. After graduation, he returned to Bucknell as the assistant water polo coach from 1989-90, and he took on the head coaching responsibilities for the 1991 season. Harvey came to Bucknell from Woodcliff Lake, N.J.
