The starting center on the 1935 Orange Bowl football team, George McGaughey received All-America honorable mention in 1934 and later coached for many years at Lafayette College, where he is also a member of the Hall of Fame. He left Lafayette in 1942 to begin four years of service in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was an assistant coach at Wabash College and New York University for four years before returning to Lafayette in 1950, where he served 14 years as freshman football coach and 27 years as director of intramurals before retiring in 1977.
