A three-year letterman in football, basketball and baseball, Kiick captained the former two teams, played in the North-South football all-star game in 1940 and played for two years with the Pittsburgh Steelers before and after serving in World War II, where he received the Silver Star for bravery in action and the Purple Heart. A fullback on the gridiron, Kiick was a Second-Team All-Pennsylvania selection in 1939, he played in the North-South and New York Herald Tribune All-Star Games in 1940. His son, Jim, won two Super Bowl titles as a member of the Miami Dolphins and played on the Dolphins famed 1972 undefeated team.Â
