Hubka was sent to Bucknell for the V-12 officer program after enlisting in the Marines, and he went on to start in both football and baseball for the Bison. On the gridiron Hubka once had a 91-yard punt return for a touchdown against F&M in 1943, and he set the Bucknell record for punt return yards in a game (140 vs. Muhlenberg in 1944). Hubka played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1946-47 and later coached at Camden and Plainfield High Schools in New Jersey, where he was also a three-sport official.
