A three-year letterman in baseball and football, Gene Luccarelli set school records with 10 interceptions for 129 yards in 1970 and with 18 interceptions for 232 yards in his career. The single-season record remained until 2011, and the career record remained intact 50 years later. He received honorable mention on the All-Pennsylvania team in 1970 in addition to Second Team Academic All-America honors. In 1971, his third season as the Bison's centerfielder in baseball, he led the team with a .396 batting average and was named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference Western Section team and the Academic All-America First Team. A member of Bucknell's 1969 MAC championship baseball squad and a career .320 hitter, Luccarelli came to Bucknell from Ridgefield, N.J.Â
