Dr. Edward Pangburn was a football and baseball player and an outstanding scholar-athlete as an undergraduate at Bucknell. He went on to a distinguished career in medicine and as a Bucknell alumnus. A physician to Bucknell teams and a constant spectator and fan at Bison athletic events, "Doc" Pangburn preached the value of athletics and gave a great deal of his time, energy and talents to his alma mater. He served as president of the Bucknell Alumni Association, was a charter member of the Bison Club and the Bison Century Club, was a member of the Bucknell Athletic Council, and received the Alumni Award for Distinguished Service to the University in 1956 and the Bison Club Award in 1976. Dr. Pangurn served on the University's Board of Trustees in 1942-47 and from 1959 until his death in 1977, and he was chairman of the Trustee Committee on Health, Physical Education and Athletics. A memorial citation presented by the Trustees praised him as an "incomparable servant to the University." The Edward W. Pangburn Bucknell Intramural Trophy is a goal of student groups every year and the Pangburn Award is presented annually to the senior athletes who best exemplify "sportsmanship, fellowship, and contributions to Bucknell."
