Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame

Edgar H. Biggs
- Induction:
- 1984
The head athletic trainer for Bucknell's athletic teams from 1948-86, Hal Biggs was a past president of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society, he served on the Board of Directors of the National Athletic Trainers Association and was inducted into the Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame in 1983. "Biggsie," as he was known on campus, touched the lives of countless student-athletes, student trainers and the colleagues he worked with, and made friends in all walks of his life. A native of Tehuacana, Texas, Biggs served in the Army during World War II. He was in the medical corps in the European Theater. He completed his undergraduate and master's degrees at Ohio State University, and in 1948, became Bucknell University's head athletic trainer and later associate professor of physical education. His accomplishments were many, including inductions into three Halls of Fame: the National Athletic Trainers Association in 1983, the Bucknell Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984 and as an inaugural member of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society in 2000. His loyalty to Bucknell was rooted in being able to teach young people his skills. Many of his student athletic trainers continued their studies to become athletic trainers or physicians. He worked with five head football coaches at Bucknell and missed only one game. A pioneer in the development of special equipment to protect and prevent injuries, Biggs initiated a highly respected program for teaching athletic training to undergraduates. After his retirement in 1986, the Hal Biggs Award was presented to Bucknell's most outstanding student athletic trainer.Â
