The most prolific strikeout pitcher in Bucknell history, Don Richards set career records with 18 victories and 354 strikeouts. He had a 1.98 earned run average and was named to the NCAA All-District 2 first team in 1956. That year he threw Bucknell's first-ever no-hitter Franklin & Marshall. He struck out a school-record 21 batters in that game, and more than a half-century later he still held Bison marks for fans in a game, season (140 in 1955) and career. Richards graduated with a remarkable 1.51 career ERA in 257 innings pitched. He threw a one-hit shutout at Navy in his first varsity game as a sophomore. Richards also earned one varsity letter in basketball, and the Pittsburgh native played briefly in the Boston Red Sox farm system.Â
