While in California, Mardis worked closely with the Bulldogs' softball team, organized and administered preseason physicals for more than 600 student-athletes and had roles in medical coverage for the football team during preseason practice and during home games.
In the summer of 2008, Mardis was an athletic trainer for the Los Angeles Dodgers' Rookie Level team. He got his first taste of professional baseball in 2005 when he served as an athletic training intern for the Schaumburg Flyers.
A member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Mardis earned an associate's degree from Campbell University in 2002 and a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois in 2006. He completed his master's degree from Fresno State in August 2009.
Mardis works closely with the Bison men's soccer, men's basketball and softball teams.
