Dear Bucknell Swimming and Diving Alumni, Parents, and Friends:
The process has begun! Our first two weeks of the 2024-25 season are in the books and we are building into the normal rhythm and routines of the year!
Every year brings transitions and new challenges while we work to build on the lessons and successes of the previous seasons. We are excited to welcome 12 first-year swimmers and divers to the program and know they will have a great impact and play a key role in our team’s success. We are also looking forward to the 16 seniors impacting our team with strong leadership and guiding us with their depth of experience. At the same time, we begin the season with transition in our coaching staff. As happens in the coaching world, two of our coaches took new positions elsewhere as part of the next-steps in their careers and lives. Kelly Essler accepted the head coaching position at Lycoming College and Brennan Morris was offered an assistant position at UMBC. We are working on filling these positions.
The schedule for our season was recently released and can be found here.
I also wanted to take the opportunity to once again highlight our upcoming Bison Swimming and Diving Alumni Event. During the October 18-19 weekend, we are excited to host another Bucknell Swimming and Diving Celebration of Champions event similar to what was done in the fall of 2021. In addition to having a home dual meet against Boston University, we will be honoring the members of the 1974 undefeated and Middle Atlantic Conference Championship team, as well as both the men’s and women’s 2003 Patriot League Championship teams.
While we will be specifically honoring the groups mentioned, this event is a Celebration of Bucknell Swimming and Diving and is open to all alumni, parents, and friends who wish to attend. If you are considering coming back, I’d encourage you to act now for hotel reservations due to the demand for Homecoming Weekend. We have room blocks held at the Best Western Danville Inn (ask for “Bucknell Swimming & Diving Room Block,” 570-275-5750), the Pine Barn Inn in Danville (570-275-2071), and the Holiday Inn Express in New Columbia (two-night minimum, use this link to register).
The events included in the weekend celebration are free of charge, and details and RSVP information can be found HERE. There will be a social gathering in the evening of Friday, October 18 at the Bull Run Tap House, an open swim on Saturday morning in Kinney Natatorium, and a celebratory dinner and program on Saturday evening in the Terrace Room following the dual meet.
We are excited to bring together three generations of the Bucknell Swimming and Diving Family and hope you will make your plans to attend.
