Dear Bucknell Swimming and Diving Alumni, Family, and Friends:
The school year is rapidly ending here at Bucknell. As the semester comes to a close, we have celebrated our season and our senior class at both our team banquet and Bucknell’s Senior Student-Athlete Awards ceremony.
Members of the class of 2024 for the swimming and diving program accounted for four individual school records and contributed to eight school record relay performances. In addition, their names currently appear on the program’s all-time top-10 list in 28 different places individually. Far more important than any individual statistics of this class are the great contributions they made in leading and improving the program. This group entered Bucknell during the very difficult COVID year of 2020-21 and has helped steward the program forward since that time. On behalf of the entire program, we wish our graduating seniors all the best and we are grateful for all they have done for the team in their four years at Bucknell. Thank you:
Noah Basista, Kevin Crane, Abby Doss, Chris Fabian, John Gehrig, Kate Gottwald, Esme Hunter, Grace Kujawski, Kayla Lichtner, Caroline McGann and Steph Walsh
As per tradition, the major team awards were also distributed at the banquet. Winners for this past season included:
The Cathy Karpuk-Seward Award for Outstanding Female Diver: Meghan Catherwood
The Bob Richards Award for Outstanding Male Diver: Jackson Vinarub
The Kathy Frazier-Margaret Grunow Award for Outstanding Female Swimmer: Esme Hunter
The Peter O’Keeffe-Jim Harvey Award for Outstanding Male Swimmer: John Gehrig
Robert A. Latour Award, “presented annually in recognition of leadership, sportsmanship, outstanding achievement, and dedication to Bucknell women’s swimming and diving.”-Kayla Lichtner
Bill Dearstyne-Bill Dorr Award, “presented annually to the person who, by performance, leadership, and example, contributes the most to Bucknell men’s swimming and diving.”-Chris Fabian
In addition, our team was well represented with three award winners during Bucknell’s Senior Student-Athlete Awards:
John Gehrig claimed the CHRISTY MATHEWSON AWARD, presented to the outstanding senior male and female athletes.
Chris Fabian claimed the BRYAN-HUMPHREYS AWARD, presented to a student-athlete who has exhibited exceptional versatility within his/her sport, displaying outstanding achievement and the selfless determination to help the team succeed by contributing in a variety of ways.
Caroline McGann claimed the 'RAY BUCKNELL AWARD, presented to the senior student-athlete who through his/her actions has worked to eliminate attitudes and actions that have separated, excluded, or marginalized people in the past and has facilitated true understanding and recognition among multiple campus and Lewisburg community constituencies.
I also wanted to remind any of you attending Bucknell’s upcoming Reunion Weekend of the planned “Aquatics” events.
