Dear Bucknell Swimming and Diving Alumni, Parents, and Friends:
Â
The school year is rapidly coming to a close here at Bucknell. As the semester ends, we have celebrated our season and our senior class at our team banquet and Bucknell's Senior Student-Athlete Awards ceremony.Â
Â
Members of the Class of 2023 account for two individual school records and contributed to eight school-record relay performances. In addition, their names currently appear on the program's all-time top-10 list in 21 different places individually. Their great contributions in leading and improving the program are far more important than any individual statistics of this class. The senior women graduate having earned a pair of runner-up finishes at the Patriot League Championships in 2020 and 2022 (no championship meet was held in 2021) and an impressive dual meet record of 28-4. Our senior men graduate having helped move our program forward with a winning record of 19-12 over their four years and having twice placed third in the conference championships.
Â
On behalf of the entire program, we wish our graduating seniors all the best, and we are grateful for all they have done for the team in their four years at Bucknell. Thank you:
Â
Alec Baker, Catherine Craig, Sophia Donati, Naomi Douek, Ryaan Hatoum, Garrett Kiesel, Leo Kuyl, Megan Phelan, Nick Pirone, Alexandra Ritorto, Jacqueline Rounsavill, Molly See, Christian Stef, and Sabrina Vumbacco
Â
As per tradition, the major team awards were also distributed at the banquet. Winners for this past season included:
Â
The Cathy Karpuk-Seward Award for outstanding female diver: Meghan Catherwood
Â
The Bob Richards Award for outstanding male diver: Nick Pirone
Â
The Kathy Frazier-Margaret Grunow Award for outstanding female swimmer: Sabrina Vumbacco
Â
The Peter O'Keeffe-Jim Harvey Award for outstanding male swimmer: John Gehrig
Â
Robert A. Latour Award, presented annually in recognition of leadership, sportsmanship, outstanding achievement, and dedication to Bucknell women's swimming and diving:Â Catherine Craig
Â
Bill Dearstyne-Bill Dorr Award, presented annually to the person who, by performance, leadership, and example, contributes the most to Bucknell men's swimming and diving:Â Leo Kuyl
Â
In addition, our team was well represented with two award winners during Bucknell's Senior Student-Athlete Awards:
Sabrina Vumbacco claimed the BISON CLUB AWARD, presented to the senior athletes who best exemplify the winning spirit of the University's athletic program.
Â
Leo Kuyl claimed the CHRISTY MATHEWSON AWARD, presented to outstanding senior athletes.
Â
Thank you for your continued support of the Bison Swimming and Diving Program.
