Update from Head Volleyball Coach Tyler Hagstrom

Dear Bison Volleyball Alumni, Family, and Friends,
I hope your start to 2023 has been filled with happiness and good health! After a season filled with noteworthy achievements and the attainment of our team’s goal of returning to the Patriot League tournament, our program enjoyed a well-deserved break during the holidays. During that time, we received the news that our student-athletes earned a team grade-point average of 3.56 for the fall semester, the highest in-season GPA since I’ve been at Bucknell. Eight of our players earned a 3.8 GPA or higher, including four who earned a perfect 4.0. As we continue to strive for more success on the court, we take great pride in honoring the academic pursuits and overall collegiate experiences of our student-athletes as well.
The holidays also brought the hiring of our new assistant coach, Haylie Clark. Haylie recently completed her collegiate playing career at Elon University, where she starred as a setter and opposite hitter. She ranks fifth all-time in assists for the Phoenix and, in 2021, led her team to the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament championship match. Haylie served as a multi-year team captain and brings a lot of leadership and game knowledge. We’re very excited about her contributions to the program on and off the court!
In mid-January, we welcomed back our returning players and began our winter training block on the first day of the new semester. For six weeks, we will focus more on small groups and positional work, along with early morning strength and conditioning. The pace is a little slower than in the fall, but we’re really looking forward to having the time to focus on building new habits and tactics. We do plan to participate in a couple of scrimmage dates with other programs later in the spring, and more details about that will come in future newsletters.
Meanwhile, the coaching staff is still a few weeks away from returning to the recruiting trail. If you happen to run into one of us at a tournament, please say hello! We love connecting with Bucknell alumni, even if it’s at an airport or at a local coffee shop.
We also have a significant 24-hour period approaching for our program. The annual One Herd One Day 24-Hour Giving Challenge will be on March 28-29 from 10:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. I hope we can all come together in March to turn in a huge day for the volleyball program.
Thank you for your continued support!
