Dr. Steffen H. Rogers, President
![]() |
During his tenure, President Rogers has overseen the completion of the most successful campaign in Bucknell's history, surpassing its original goal of $150 million and its revised goal of $180 million to achieve $188.3 million. He has built a new administrative team, and is crafting Vision 2010, a strategic plan to guide Bucknell for the next decade.
President Rogers earned his Ph.D. in biology from Vanderbilt and accepted a postdoctoral position in pathobiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. He taught at Tulsa University and later became dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Rhode Island. At Clemson University, he served as acting president, was provost and vice president for academic affairs, and a professor of biology, prior to coming to Bucknell.
He calls his wife, Athena, his most important asset. Theirs is a 38-year partnership that was forged in their undergraduate days at Georgia Southern College. Throughout the years, Athena served as an elementary school teacher and principal.
Since their arrival at Bucknell, the president and Athena have logged thousand of miles across the nation to meet alumni and friends of Bucknell. In Lewisburg, they enjoy hosting many events, from intimate dinners to student open houses. They invite alumni, students, faculty, and friends to stop by and tour the President's home and gardens when in Lewisburg.
