LEWISBURG, Pa.- Senior defender Kira Leclercq has been one of the nation's best bulwarks over her three seasons and the wider field hockey community symbolized by the NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) seized notice naming the Bison to its prestigious 2025 NFHCA Division I Watchlist as announced Thursday. Leclercq joined 194 other accomplished field hockey players on the watchlist and was one of the 11 Patriot League players recognized.Â
The list is intended to showcase those field hockey student-athletes with the strongest potential for consideration to the current year's NFHCA All-Region and All-American teams. To be nominated for the 2025 NFHCA Watchlist, student-athletes must have been previously recognized for their outstanding field hockey abilities within the past two years (NFHCA All-Region, NFHCA All-American, All-Conference, Senior Nexus Championship selection, NCAA All-Tournament Team, and/or U.S. National or International Team roster) and nominated by their NFHCA member coach.
Leclercq enters her senior season after a 2024 campaign where she won Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, repeated on the PL First Team, earned NFHCA First Team laurels, was named First Team All-ECAC, and led nationally in defensive saves (9). The defender found time to contribute offensively with six goals.Â
For her career, Leclercq collected 21 defensive saves - ranking second in Bucknell history - is a three-time All-Patriot League honoree, has made two NFHCAÂ regional teams, and scored 14 goals.Â
The Patriot League recently released its preseason honors with Leclercq notching Defensive Player of the Year and a spot on the all-league squad.Â
The Bison open the season tomorrow with a neutral site clash versus Sacred Heart at Yale. Start time is 7:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed on NEC Front Row.Â
