O'Neill Earns PL Pitcher of the Week after Eight-Inning Gem Against Holy Cross

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Tyler O'Neill's eight-inning gem in Bucknell's 1-0 win over Holy Cross on Saturday earned the senior his first Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honor, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
O'Neill went eight innings for the third time this season, allowing no runs and just three hits with six strikeouts. O'Neill out-dueled Holy Cross starter Danny Macchiarola, who allowed no runs and just two hits through seven innings. This was O'Neill's fifth start this season allowing one earned run or less.Â
The Bison went on to walk off the game in the ninth. Senior Billy Kender and junior Michael Trommer both singled to lead off the ninth, and a throwing error sent Kender home for the win.
O'Neill has racked up 211 career strikeouts, and is third on Bucknell's career strikeouts list. He sits just 27 strikeouts away from tying Connor Van Hoose '18 for second all-time at 238 strikeouts.
O'Neill sports a 3.03 ERA in nine starts this year. Opponents are hitting .214 and have just 46 hits in 59.1 innings against O'Neill. He has 54 strikeouts this season against 16 walks.
Bucknell continues Patriot League play this week as Navy comes to Lewisburg on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. start to finish the season series between the Bison and the Midshipmen.
