About the Bison
- Bucknell is back in action this weekend for its fourth of six spring events. The Bison are one of nine teams in the field at the Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
- This is a play-6, count-4 event, and the Bison will send out Sophia Bardunias, Paige Richter, Lila Smith, Katherine Vice, Nicole Yun, and Tara Thomas. Bucknell will be paired with Sacred Heart and Fairfield on day one, starting on holes 1 and 15-18.
- The Bison are coming off a 10th-place finish at the Jackrabbit Spring Invitational, hosted by South Dakota State at Boulder Creek GC outside of Las Vegas on March 10-11. Bardunias shot 77-74-74 in a T-19th finish, and she was named Patriot League Golfer of the Week after that strong performance.
- Bardunias, a freshman, leads the team in spring scoring average at 78.1. Her 77.4 average for the full season is just behind Yun's team-best 77.3. Smith (79.1) and Richter (79.4) also have sub-80 averages.
- The Bison enjoyed a strong fall season. The squad posted top-three finishes in four of its five tournaments, including a runner-up showing at the Red Flash Invitational at Sunnehanna CC in October.
- Bucknell posted a 311.6 team scoring average in the fall, highlighted by a record-setting week at Youngstown State's Roseann Schwartz Invitational. The Bison shot 301-295 in a third-place finish, breaking the school 18- and 36-hole scoring records along the way.
- The Bison have played in this event twice before, finishing 10th in 2022 and ninth in 2023. Richter and Thomas were both in the lineup two seasons ago. Richter finished T-18th with rounds of 79-78, while Thomas shot 82-85. Thomas was the low Bison here in 2022, posting rounds of 81-86-81 in difficult weather conditions.
- Next up is Youngstown State's spring tournament at Avalon Lakes GC on Apr. 6-7.
