Baseball Drops Series Opener to Army, Game Two Postponed

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's eight-game home winning streak came to an end on Saturday as first-place Army took the first of a three-game series by a 15-0 count on Saturday at Depew Field. Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to the threat of inclement weather, and the Bison and Black Knights will now play a pair of nine-inning games on Sunday starting at noon.
Braden Golinski went 4-for-5 and connected on one of Army's three home runs in the game. Sam Ruta homered and drove in four runs to help the Black Knights improve to 22-12 overall and 10-2 in the Patriot League. Bucknell (15-18, 8-8 PL) managed just one hit, a third-inning single by Kyle Lyons, against Army's red-hot starter Tanner Gresham (4-1). Gresham was coming off back-to-back three-hit shutouts, and he tossed six scoreless innings in this one.
Bison starter Chris DiFiore (3-5) needed only eight pitches to work a 1-2-3 first inning, but Golinski and Ethan Ellis hit solo homers in the second to get Army going. The Black Knights added three more in the third inning and tallied five in both the fourth and sixth.
A bright spot for the Bison was freshman relief pitcher Mikey Myro, who retired all five batters he faced. Myro's fourth career appearance started with the bases loaded and one out, and he induced a shallow fly ball and a strikeout to get his team off the field. He then retired the side in order in the seventh inning.
