LEWISBURG, Pa. – Following his first competition with the Orange & Blue at the Clarion Open, Bucknell freshman Noah Mulvaney has been named EIWA Co-Wrestler of the Week. The Hartford, Wis. native won the 165-pound bracket at the Clarion Open on Sunday, going 6-0 while knocking off some of the top-ranked wrestlers in the country.
Mulvaney opened the tournament with back-to-back bonus-point victories, defeating Michigan State's Konner Roche by a 17-2 technical fall and Edinboro's Joey Arnold by a 10-1 major decision to advance to the round of 16. There he posted an 11-7 decision over the No. 4 seed Marcus Petite of Buffalo. Mulvaney then won 9-7 over fifth-seeded Cooper Noehre of Purdue in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Mulvaney went head-to-head with two-time NCAA qualifier and 2022 EIWA runner-up Joshua Ogunsanya, who sat at 15th in the country in the Intermat rankings. After falling behind 4-0 in the second period, Mulvaney battled back with five unanswered points in the third. He registered a takedown and an escape in final 37 seconds to win 6-4 and advance to the finals.
Mulvaney faced Ohio State's third-seeded Isaac Wilcox in the finals and prevailed in a back-and-forth bout. Trailing 3-2 after the first two periods, Mulvaney registered two takedowns in the third to win 8-7.
Before arriving in Lewisburg, Mulvaney was a Wisconsin State Champion at Arrowhead High School as well as a Fargo National Champion.
Joining Mulvaney as EIWA Wrestler of the Week following a tie in the voting was American's No. 16 Jack Maida (125). For his efforts, Mulvaney earned a spot in the Intermat rankings this week, coming in at No. 33.
