About the Bison
- Bucknell hosts its annual fall tournament this weekend at the Bucknell Golf Club. The Bison will be in action for the first time since finishing eighth at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational, hosted by Youngstown State, on Sept. 13-14.
- Three other Patriot League teams will be in town this weekend, with Holy Cross, Lehigh and Navy in the 11-team field.
- Tatum McKelvey was Bucknell's low finisher at Youngstown. She placed T-18th after rounds of 80-74. The 2-over 74 in the second round was a career best. McKelvey had posted one other 74 as a Bison, that coming last spring at the Bucknell Invitational. That came on a par-70 course, so the 2-over total was her best in relation to par.
- Sun Woo Jeon also had a career-best in relation to par in the first round, when she shot a 3-over 75.
- Freshman Tara Thomas made her collegiate debut at Youngstown and shot 77-78 while playing as an individual.
- McKelvey leads the team with a 77.0 scoring average, just ahead of Thomas at 77.5.
- This week's lineup will feature McKelvey, Viveka Kurup, Morgan Sohosky, Thomas and Kelsey Yi. Playing as individuals will be Jeon, Morgan Hennessy, Kayla Yi, Sahana Paravantavida and Christina Canales.
- The Bison have won this event five times: 2006, 2010, 2011, 2016 and Spring 2021.
- With no golf played last fall due to COVID-19, last season's Bucknell Invitational was contested in April. It was just a four-team event, but Bucknell ran away with the team and individual titles. In fact, Bucknell's Orange (615) and Blue (620) squads both outpaced runner-up Saint Francis (Pa.), which totaled 665.
- Casey Morrow had a record-setting weekend for the Bison. She tied the school record with an opening-round 69, and her second-round 74 was also the best in the field. Morrow was medalist by six shots over teammate Tatum McKelvey.
- Morrow became Bucknell's sixth medalist at the Bucknell Invitational. The most recent was Lindsay Dodovich, who shot 72-77 in 2016. Other individual champions are Katie Jurenovich (2010), Teri Schlang (2006), Jess Hetrich (2002) and Hilary Mainka (1999).
- Bucknell will participate in the Navy Fall Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course on Oct. 2-3.
