LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell wrestler Zach Hartman was selected as the Bison Athlete of the Week, which is presented by Mid-Penn Energy and Mid-Penn Engineering.
Hartman earned this award for the second time this season after earning a podium spot at the NCAA Championships. He was previously honored for winning the EIWA title at 165 pounds.
Hartman's sixth-place performance at the NCAA's premier event is the third highest by a Bison. Previously, Tom Marchetti (167) finished fourth in 1989 and Andy Rendos (165) went fifth in 2009; Rendos also took sixth in 2010.
Hartman is the sixth Bison wrestler to earn All-America laurels, joining Marchetti, Bryan Burns (190, 1991), Bobby Ferraro (177, 1994 & 1995), Rendos and current assistant coach Kevin LeValley (149, 2010 & 2011). In addition, he joined Marchetti as Bucknell's second NCAA semifinalist.
This is Hartman's third career Bison Athlete of the Week citation; he was previously recognized as a freshman after placing third in the 157-pound weight class at the prestigious Ken Kraft Midlands Championships. He is one of three wrestlers to earn this award this school year, joining Vincent Andreano and Darren Miller. Andreano, a 174 pounder, was recognized after going 3-0 during Bucknell's season-opening tournament against VMI and LIU; Miller, a 133 pounder and NCAA qualifier, was honored on the strength of his commanding victory during the Bison's round-robin tournament at Sacred Heart.
