LEWISBURG, Pa. - After his first week of spring competition, Bucknell track and field's Luke Webster (Pataskala, Ohio/Newark Catholic) collected his first Bison Athlete of the Week honor on Monday. The senior earned top-10 finishes in all three of his throws events at the Maryland Invitational last Saturday, but his best performance came in the discus where he broke the school record with a mark of 170-10.
Webster finished second in the discus with his record-breaking performance. The first Bison in program history at better than 170 feet, he topped his own personal best by nearly two feet. Webster is now the owner of two different Bucknell records as he also set the program standard in the indoor shot put (55-8 ¼) at the Patriot League Championships in February.
In addition to his breakthrough in the discus, Webster also finished third in the shot put and seventh in the hammer throw at Maryland. His throw of 51-0 in the shot was a career best. He also finished with a mark of 152-6 in the hammer.
The Bison Athlete of the Week award is the first of Webster's career.
Bucknell will be back in action this weekend at the Colonial Relays. The meet will be hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., April 5-6.
