LEWISBURG, Pa. –The Bucknell baseball team will play seven games in the next week in Central Florida as it travels south for Spring Break. The Bison will be playing in the RussMatt Invitational and will face North Dakota State, Fairfield, Yale, LIU Brooklyn, Valparaiso, Indiana and Northwestern beginning Sunday, March 10.
Bucknell carries a 1-9 mark into the annual trip to the Sunshine State. The Bison earned their first win this past Sunday in Charlottesville, Va., when they came back from a four-run deficit to defeat Harvard 7-4.
Freshman Jon Mayer leads Bucknell in hitting with a .313 average, while reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Max Kra has a 0.00 ERA in 6.2 innings over his first three career appearances.
Bucknell's pitching staff has allowed just 94 hits in 83.1 innings this season and starters Bryson Hough and Dan Goldstein have both yielded fewer hits than innings pitched. However, the Bison are averaging 4.8 walks allowed per game.
This trip will mark the fifth straight season in which the Bison have competed in the RussMatt Invitational. Bucknell went 2-5 last year, 4-3 in 2011 and 5-2 on both the 2009 and 2010 trips.
The Bison will open their home schedule right after they return from Florida as they host Saint Joseph's in a single game at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19. It will be the first of 13 games at Depew Field in 2013.
