LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Corey Lear (Orangeville, Pa./Benton Area) has withdrawn from next week's NCAA Wrestling Championship due to injury. The three-time EIWA placewinner at 165 pounds earned his second consecutive at-large berth to the NCAA Championship on Wednesday and was scheduled to face Northwestern's Pierce Harger in his opening bout.
Lear, who posted a 2-2 NCAA record in 2012, was a team-best 26-8 this season and is tied for ninth on Bucknell's career wins list with 88 victories. He was coming off a sixth-place finish at EIWAs.
The Bison will be represented at next week's NCAA Championship in Des Moines, Iowa, by sophomore 285-pounder Joe Stolfi (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), who earned an automatic berth after finishing third at last week's EIWA Championships. A first-time NCAA participant, Stolfi is 23-14 this season and has won 16 of his last 19 bouts. He will open NCAA competition against sixth-seeded Bobby Telford of Iowa.
