LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell baseball seniors Jack Boehm (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), David Duffett (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), Matt Lamore (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) and Russell Seidell (Granville, Ohio/Granville) were named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the league office announced Wednesday. The Bison's four honorees made up nearly half of the 10-person team and each student-athlete was a first-time recipient of the award.
A two-year weekend starting pitcher with seven career victories, Boehm was 0-0 with a 5.68 ERA and one save in 25.1 innings this season when he split time between starting and coming out of the bullpen. He yielded zero or one earned run in seven of his 11 appearances and allowed just six earned runs over his final six outings, a span of 12.0 innings.
A civil engineering major with a 3.41 cumulative grade-point average, Boehm is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. He posted a 3.91 GPA in the fall 2011 semester, was social chairman of Sigma Chi fraternity and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
A three-year starter at third base, Duffett saved his best performance for his final campaign as he hit .319 with 10 doubles, five triples, 30 RBIs and 23 runs scored this past spring. The right-handed hitter was second on the team with 17 multi-hit games, led the squad with nine multi-RBI outings and posted a nine-game hitting streak at one point.
Duffett saw his average steadily rise throughout his career, going from .160 as a freshman to .225 as a sophomore to .286 as a junior and finally to .319. He will graduate with 72 RBIs, 94 runs scored and 157 hits in his career.
A Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member who has shown up on the Bucknell Dean's List twice, Duffett is a mechanical engineering major with a GPA north of 3.3. He earned a Merit Bucknell Scholarship and a Dean's Scholarship and has volunteered at a local food bank, with Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society.
Lamore is a biology major with a 3.40 GPA. He is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and he posted a stellar 3.89 GPA in the fall 2011 semester.
A Second Team All-Patriot League selection as a designated hitter in 2011, Lamore is a two-way player who served as a designated hitter, relief pitcher and outfielder during his career. This past season, he was 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA in 13.1 innings on the mound and he hit .250 with 11 RBIs, three doubles and nine runs scored. A left-handed hitter, Lamore will graduate with seven career home runs and 47 RBIs.
Another two-way player, Seidell was a regular starter at first base in 2012 and also made 12 appearances on the mound, splitting time between starting and relieving. The lefty tied for second on the team in wins (3), was second on the squad in ERA (2.87) and earned one of his two saves in the 22nd two-hitter in program history vs. St. Bonaventure. At the plate, Seidell hit .282 with six RBIs, three doubles and he scored 13 runs.
A mechanical engineering major, Seidell owns a 3.41 GPA and has been a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. The Academic All-Patriot League Team was added for all sports in 2010-11 to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the fields of play.
Bucknell wrapped up the 2012 campaign with a 21-28 overall record, including 7-13 in Patriot League play. The Bison tied Lafayette for fourth place in the league standings, but lost the head-to-head tiebreaker that decided the final Patriot League Tournament berth.
