LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon), a member of the Bison wrestling team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Tuesday, May 3.
LeValley won the Christy Mathewson Award, presented to the outstanding senior athlete. LeValley shared the award with Christa Matlack of the women's soccer team, who was the female selection.
One of just three two-time All-Americans in program history, LeValley finished seventh in the 149-pound bracket at the NCAA Championships in both 2010 and 2011. He is the program's career wins leader with a 127-40 career record, including a stellar 76-11 over his final two campaigns. Those 11 losses were all by decision by a total of just 21 points.
LeValley, in 2010-11, led Bucknell in wins for a second consecutive year as he piled up 34 victories against just three losses. He became just the second Bison to win an individual EIWA title as he defeated defending national champion Kyle Dake from Cornell in the finals in Sojka Pavilion. Additionally, LeValley earned the EIWA Coaches Trophy as the outstanding wrestler of the tournament.
A three-time EIWA placewinner and NCAA qualifier, LeValley is one of just five Bucknell wrestlers to post at least two 30-win campaigns and his 42 victories in 2009-10 established a new school record. He was 20-10 against ranked foes his junior and senior years, while also becoming the first grappler at Bucknell to win an individual Midlands Championships crown and win at the NWCA All-Star Classic.
LeValley climbed as high as No. 2 in the national rankings as a senior. He finished his career with 59 dual wins, a 22-8 EIWA dual mark and nine career pins.
