LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell wrestling senior Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon) was named the Susquehanna Valley Bison Athlete of the Week Monday, two days after earning All-America honors at the NCAA Championships. LeValley earned his second consecutive All-America certificate after a second straight seventh-place showing in the 149-pound bracket.
LeValley is just the third wrestler in program history to be named an All-American twice, joining Bobby Ferraro (1994, 1995) and former teammate Andy Rendos (2009, 2010).
Bucknell's all-time wins leader (127-40 career record), LeValley was 4-2 at the NCAA Championships, advancing to the quarterfinals of the championship bracket before battling through the wrestlebacks to secure seventh place. Three of his four wins were by major decision, while his two losses were both by just one point, with one coming in overtime.
LeValley, who was seeded third in his bracket, secured seventh place with a 5-4 victory over Virginia's Derek Valenti.
LeValley finished his senior campaign with a 34-3 overall record with two falls, three tech falls and 13 major decisions. He had winning streaks of 18 and 14 and never lost two bouts in a row, climbing as high as No. 2 nationally in the Intermat rankings.
Among the many highlights of LeValley's final year as a Bison was his first EIWA individual title. He defeated Cornell's Kyle Dake, the eventual NCAA 149-pound champion, in the EIWA title match in Sojka Pavilion earlier this month, joining Rendos as the only Bucknell wrestlers to earn an EIWA crown.
LeValley, who was 5-2 against fellow 149-pound All-Americans in 2010-11, lost just 11 times over the last two years. Each of the losses were by decision by a combined 21 points.
An eight-time Bison Athlete of the Week honoree, LeValley also won at the NWCA All-Star Classic, claimed a Midlands Championships title and was 11-3 against ranked foes this year.
LeValley was joined at the NCAA Championships by teammate Jay Hahn (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), who posted a 1-2 record in the 197-pound bracket.
