LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore wrestler Derek Reber (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) was named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. The honor came three days after Reber recorded a pin in the opening match of Bucknell's 26-13 victory over Lock Haven.
Reber pinned the Bald Eagles' Tyrus Nickoli in 4 minutes, 24 seconds to stake the Bison to an early 6-0 lead, snapping a streak of three consecutive matches that Bucknell fell behind by double digits before getting on the board. Reber led by a 10-1 score at the time of the pin.
The pin was the career-high third of the season for Reber, who improved to 13-11 this year. The 125-pound Reber has four bonus-point wins in 2010-11 and is 7-8 in duals. He began the year winning eight of his first nine bouts en route to a first-place finish at the Michigan State Open and a second-place showing at the Navy Classic.
Reber, who missed the 2009-10 campaign with a knee injury, is now 44-23 in his two-year career, including 23-12 in duals.
The wrestling team has now won the Bison Athlete of the Week award three times this year. Senior All-American Kevin LeValley was cited after a 3-0 record and his 100th career win the final week of November and again following his Midlands Championships title.
Reber and his Bison teammates will be back in action this Thursday, Feb. 10, when they host Army inside Davis Gym. The match will be broadcast live on Bison Vision starting at 7 p.m.
