LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior wrestler Joe McMullan (Easton, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) was named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. The 197-pounder made his season debut at Saturday's Bison Duals and posted a 3-0 record, defeating opponents from Princeton, Sacred Heart and Central Michigan.
McMullan, who has 24 career wins, missed the first part of the season with a knee injury. He helped Bucknell (2-6, 2-0 EIWA) to a 2-1 mark on Saturday as the Bison defeated EIWA foes Princeton and Sacred Heart.
McMullan began his day with a 10-4 decision over Princeton's Kurt Brendel that clinched the team victory for Bucknell in the 27-9 match. The team co-captain followed that victory with a pin of Sacred Heart's Sam Morison, and then closed out the day with a 3-1 overtime decision against Central Michigan's Chad Friend.
The first wrestler to earn Bison Athlete of the Week honors this year, McMullan was one of four Bucknell grapplers to post perfect 3-0 marks during Saturday's Bison Duals.
McMullan's wins vs. Princeton and Sacred Heart lifted his career EIWA dual record above .500. He is now 7-6 all-time in EIWA duals, competing at 184, 197 and heavyweight.
Bucknell and McMullan will be back in action Dec. 29-30 at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill.
