LEWISBURG, Pa. - Three days after tying the Bucknell single-season record for wins, Bison junior wrestler Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon) was named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. LeValley improved his season record to 33-5 with a 17-0 technical fall victory at Lock Haven on Friday.
LeValley, who is ranked seventh nationally in his weight class, posted his win Friday against Zach Kell. He is now tied with teammates Andy Rendos and Shane Riccio, as well as Brian Pitzer, for the most wins in a season in program history. Rendos (33-8) and Riccio (33-16) both reached 33 wins last year, while Pitzer originally set the standard with a 33-9 mark in 1998-99.
A 2009 NCAA qualifier, LeValley has now won seven bouts in a row. Over his last four matches, he has defeated his opponents by an aggregate score of 56-0, including two major decisions and two technical falls. Eighteen of LeValley's victories this season have come by more than decision as he has collected nine major decisions, six technical falls, two pins and one forfeit.
LeValley has wrestled a very difficult schedule this year, facing 11 ranked opponents. He is 7-4 in those bouts. The Colorado native also owns a career-best 14-2 record in duals and possesses an unblemished 5-0 mark in EIWA duals. Overall, his five losses have all been by decision and by a combined 10 points.
With his 33 wins this year, LeValley is now a stellar 84-34 in his career. That win total places him ninth on Bucknell's all-time list, four behind eighth-place Ken Herceg.
LeValley has now been named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week twice this year, and three times in his career.
The Bison (10-6, 5-0 EIWA) will close out the road portion of their dual schedule this Friday, Feb. 12, at George Mason. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Fairfax, Va.
