LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell wrestling senior All-American Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon) was named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday after posting a 3-0 record and picking up his 100th career victory this past weekend.
A 149-pounder who became just the sixth wrestler in program history to reach the century mark in wins, LeValley concluded his strong weekend with a 6-2 decision over Oklahoma State's Jamal Parks, who was ranked seventh nationally, two spots lower than LeValley's No. 5 ranking. LeValley was the only Bison to win a bout against the Cowboys, who are ranked second in the nation and have won a record 34 national titles.
LeValley began the weekend with a pair of bonus-point wins on Saturday as he defeated South Dakota State's Jimmy Hamilton by tech fall and Nebraska's Ross Grande by major decision. The Bison split those two matches, defeating the Jackrabbits 38-3, but losing to the host and 22nd-ranked Huskers, 19-16.
The school record holder with 42 wins last year, LeValley is now 7-0 this year and 100-37 in his career. He has two wins over top-10 ranked opponents as he defeated No. 6 Kurt Kinser of Indiana to win the Michigan State Open earlier this month. Additionally, LeValley posted a 6-0 decision over No. 12 Torsten Gillespie of Edinboro at the NWCA All-Star Classic in a bout that didn't count towards his overall record. LeValley's triumph was the first for a Bison at the prestigious event.
LeValley is now 3-0 in duals this season, giving him 12 consecutive dual victories. His last loss in a dual came last Jan. 8 at the Virginia Duals to Oklahoma's No. 4-ranked Kyle Terry.
A year ago only two Bucknell wrestlers had ever reached 100 career wins - Bobby Ferraro (118) and Tom Marchetti (106) - but now the exclusive club includes six Bison. 2010 graduates Andy Rendos (121), David Marble (111) and Shane Riccio (108) each surpassed the 100-win plateau last year.
This is the fifth time LeValley has earned Bison Athlete of the Week honors. He was cited once as a sophomore in 2008-09 and three times last winter.
LeValley and his Bucknell teammates will host nationally ranked Lehigh Friday, Dec. 3, inside Davis Gym. Admission is free and the match will be broadcast live on Bison Vision.
